And so it begins

We have picked up our packet of applications for the first McCarthy Brothers Bond Scholarship to be awarded at Greenfield High School. Applicants were asked to include an essay that shares information about their sibling(s) and how that family dynamic has shaped them or molded them into the person they are today. I am looking forward to reading over these applications and learning about the relationships they have with their siblings.
Mike and I are on opposite ends of the spectrum- he is the oldest of 3 with a younger brother Glenn in the middle and the baby in his family his sister Julie. I am the youngest of four, the oldest in my family is my sister Cindy then I have twin brothers Jeff and Jon. There has been much conversation between Mike and I about the oldest having it made and the youngest being spoiled. I think at this point it is something we agree to disagree on.
Growing up I had the benefit of always having someone to do things with, but I also had to share a bedroom and seemed like I always got nothing but hand me downs from my sister and cousins. I felt like I had to be twice as loud to be heard, and that by the time I arrived my mother was thoroughly exhausted by my brothers. There were plenty of arguments and times that we were not each others biggest fans. But our sibling bond is strong- I have leaned on them a lot throughout my life and certainly have relied on them to hold me steady during these past 5 months especially. Beyond a doubt I know that I can count on them and I love them with all my heart.
How have your siblings shaped you?
