The McCarthy Brothers Bond Scholarship
On May 28th, 2026 we returned to Greenfield High School to present awards from the McCarthy Brothers Bond Foundation for the third year.
Unfortunately Angie was sick and unable to attend so this year the awards were presented by Mike, Colin and Chelsea, Colin and Shane’s cousin, while their Auntie Cindy was on photography duty.
This year we awarded three seniors with $500 prizes:
Sophia Rotkiewicz- This was super special for us since her sister Addison was an award recipient in our first year . Sophia, like her sister, is a volunteer at Mt. Snow with their adaptive skiing program. As I have mentioned before Colin participates with a program called NEHSA at Mt. Sunapee up in New Hampshire. The volunteers of these organizations are the heart and soul. We admire this family's dedication to helping people with all abilities get on the slopes.
Sophia will be attending Villanova University planning to major in Applied Mathematics and Spanish with a career goal of a Data Analyst. Sophia’s class schedule is full of advanced placement classes in all subjects. She is ranked 2nd in her class with a weighted GPA of 4.35. Sophia is a softball player, she is also a member of the National Honor Society, Key Club, Spanish Club and Student Council.
When writing about her sister my favorite line from her essay was - “ I don't think I ever felt true inspiration from someone until I realized who my older sister was.”
Ivy Rae-Ivy will also be headed to Villanova University where she plans to major in Biology with a career goal of Forensic Pathologist. Ivy has taken several AP classes and honors classes during her time at GHS. Ivy too is involved in the Student Council, National Honor Society, Key Club, Spanish Club and is Class Treasurer. For sports Ivy has played Softball and Field Hockey at the Varsity level.
Ivy wrote a heartwarming essay about her little sister. My favorite lines from her -” My little sister mirrors my everyday actions. She’s one of the reasons I set myself up to achieve goals or create good habits.“
Nathanial Woodard- Nathaniel will be attending Greenfield Community College planning to major in Political Science with a career goal of a Politician-. Nathaniel listed extra curricular activities as Drum Major in the band, member of Track and Cross Country teams. He is also a co-chair of the Greenfield Human Rights Commission.
Nathanial has two younger brothers he wrote about his role as the oldest. “Being the oldest brother comes with responsibility, love and respect.” He goes on to say that “through every up and down we have made each other stronger and wiser.”
We also presented five more seniors with $100 awards :
Mason Youmell- Mason will be attending Curry College where he will major in Exercise Science with a career goal of Physical Therapist.
